What I Promise My Clients As A Massage Therapist?

When I talk to clients about massage, I don't talk about pushing toxins from the body, or helping to improve circulation, or healing muscles. Why? Because there really isn't enough research to support any of these claims. What I do talk about is that massage should feel good. You should feel better leaving a massage therapy session than when you arrived. This is the only promise that I make as a massage therapist.
Health professionals are trained to look for ways to help people feel better. This is what I do. I help people feel better. When you leave a massage session, you should feel relaxed. You should feel more tension in your body released. You should feel more comfortable and relaxed in your own body.
Before you go to any health professional, whether it's a massage therapist or someone else, you want to make sure that they are properly trained and skilled in every aspect of their health practice. You also want them to have some kind of a relationship with you as a person. I am very lucky that I have developed a relationship and rapport with most of my clients. They are my friends and I care about them. I can't imagine doing any other kind of work.
The bottom line is that if you know the amount of training that a health professional has had, you'll know the quality of care and the level of expertise you can expect. Plus, you'll have a health professional that you can trust and feel comfortable with.
Being a massage therapist doesn't mean that I have to have the answers to everyone's problems. It simply means that I care enough to listen. And maybe, just maybe, I can provide a few minutes of relief to help someone relax and feel at ease.
